COMMERCE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team will look to defend their crown as the reigning champions of the Southland Conference Tournament as they begin their run in the 2025 edition this Friday at 10 a.m. against No. 3 Southeastern.
It is a rematch of the 2023 and 2024 championship matches, this time being seen in the first round of the SLC Tournament instead of the final. For the past five seasons, only Southeastern or A&M-Corpus Christi have been the tournament champions with the Islanders winning three of those years.
This year the Islanders are going in with a squad of just six from last year's championship team, including
Brooklyn Jaeger who was just named the SLC Libero of the Year. She was on last year's All-Tournament Team after recording 37 digs in the title game, the program record for most digs by an individual in a three-set match.
Jaeger enters the tournament with the accolade to her name after leading the conference in digs (346) and digs per set (5.67) through the league slate. She recorded 10+ in all SLC matches, 11 of which were 20+ performances and two where she tallied over 30 digs.
She and sophomore Virgina Van Der Werff were also both All-Conference First Team honorees. The Islanders are second in the conference in most First-Team selections among current league members, now with 35 in their program history. They come behind SFA's 51.
The Islanders will be fighting for their sixth tournament title in program history and ninth championship overall. The Islanders are 16-8 overall in tournament matches, the best mark among current conference members (.667).
