CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team plays in its final home game for more than a month this week, hosting Texas State on Thursday at 11 a.m. before then heading out on a season-long five-game road stretch. This contest marks the Islanders' (1-2) annual Education Day, presented by Whataburger, as they will be welcoming more than 1,000 students from CCISD, West Oso ISD and Flour Bluff ISD to the Dugan Wellness Center for what is likely to be a rowdy home environment.
A&M-Corpus Christi was handed a loss in its most recent contest last Tuesday, falling in a nonconference showdown against WCC opponent Santa Clara. This contest did see another very strong performance from junior
Asha Walker, with the guard scoring a team-high 18 points while converting on six of her eight attempts from three-point range. This was Walker's second time knocking down six triples in a game during the young season after also doing so in the season opener against the College of Biblical Studies on November 3, and her 4.33 threes per game rank second in all of Division I so far.
The Islanders will now try to get back in the win column against a Bobcats (0-4) team that they have had a lot of recent success against lately, as they have taken home wins against their former Southland Conference rival in each of the past three seasons. This includes a triumph on the road in the second game of the 2024-25 campaign, with the team going into San Marcos and emerging victorious by a final score of 62-57. Current senior
Samora Watson was an important contributor on that day, scoring seven points in her 16 minutes off the bench to lead all reserves.
Thursday's game can be watched live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.
