FRISCO, Texas – The most frequent honored student-athlete this year, sophomore
Virginia Van Der Werff of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team came away with her fourth Southland Conference Setter of the Week accolade, announced by the league Tuesday.
Van Der Werff was the first student-athlete in the conference to repeat a weekly award this year, and continues to shine as the only to four-peat this season.
"Virginia had a tremendous week distributing the offense and creating opportunities for her teammates. She is really working hard to improve every day and help her teammates shine," said head coach
Steve Greene.
The Islanders had a 2-0 road weekend in Louisiana where Van Der Werff ran the offense to a combined .379 hitting. She averaged 12.71 assists/set between the two matches including a four-set match career best of 53 assists at McNeese.
She attacked for a .478 efficiency herself with 13 kills on the week and added three service aces and 11 digs to another well-rounded performance.
The Islanders will gear up for another road match this Thursday night at UTRGV before returning home with the Vaqueros in tow for a rematch Saturday in the Dugan Wellness Center.
