CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team hit for their season best as their offensive attack led them past New Orleans in straight sets (25-13, 25-16, 25-20) Thursday night in the Dugan Wellness Center.
It was also A&M-Corpus Christi's Pink Game, presented by Radiology Associates, as they debuted new pink jerseys in the annual match in front of a pinked-out home crowd.
The Islanders (7-12, 3-4 SLC) hit .398 as a team on the night, a season high and sixth time hitting above .300 as a team. It was the third time this season the Islanders recorded 46 kills in a three-set match, tying that season best as well tonight.
Leading that attack was freshman
Tatum Mason who put down 14 kills off a .480 efficiency. She entered the night leading the conference overall in hitting percentage and increased her season average tonight to a .368.
Junior
Kenna Buchanan also notched double figure kills tonight with 10. Redshirt sophomore
Ally Saleh and senior
Katelyn Krienke both hit above .400 with seven and five kills, respectively.
Running the efficient offense was sophomore
Virginia Van Der Werff. She assisted on 37 of the team's 46 kills and was errorless on her own attack with five kills herself. Van Der Werff additionally added six digs to her stat sheet tonight.
Pacing the defense, however, was redshirt sophomore
Brooklyn Jaeger who picked up a match-high 14 digs. She has failed to record less than 10 digs in a conference match this year, ranking top-10 in the league slate in digs with 5.08 per set. She is one of just three passers in the conference averaging at least 5.00 digs/set.
The Islanders will now look ahead to a much-anticipated rematch of the 2024 SLC Championship when they take on Southeastern Saturday at 1 p.m. back in the Dugan Wellness Center.
