Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Tennis Posts Undefeated Opening Weekend for Early 4-0 Records

HOUSTON, Texas – Playing four matches each over two days, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams both came away with the unbeaten weekend to start the 2025 slate with the clean 4-0 records.

The Islanders took on Prairie View to open the new season on Sunday, with both the men and women winning their doubleheaders in 4-0 decisions. Monday then saw a pair of matches against Alcorn State which the Islanders again took home two wins each as the men swept both 4-0 while the women posted the 4-0 and 4-1 day.

"Our team grew today and really fought hard! We did a great job with our energy, fight, and encouragement! This team is really growing at a very rapid rate! They've been working hard on their process and they really competed today. Our goal is to control and play every present point within intensity, and they really strived hard at doing that! We are very grateful to the Jewish Community Center and the Chancellors Club for making these matches happen with their generosity! Prairie View and Alcorn State are good, well-coached teams, and they challenged us this weekend. We will rest our bodies, recharge, and get back to chopping wood and getting better every day! Go Islanders!" said head coach Steve Moore.

The men didn't drop a duel, with newcomer Maxime Salesses squeezing in a team-high three singles wins from the No. 6 spot. Senior Tom Berry notched two singles wins between courts two and three, while sophomore Nicholas Niox Chateau also came away with multiple singles victories at courts four and five.

Two doubles pairs also notched three victories to help the men go undefeated in doubles. Salesses teamed with fellow newcomer Omar Suarez and took a stab at playing each court for a win at each spot. The duo of sophomore Mathieu Coignet and junior Josef Zapletal notched two victories at No. 2 doubles and tacked on another at the No. 3 spot.

The women were led by freshman Juliette Jalai who spread her attack for the 4-0 record among four different singles courts. Freshman Kseniya Ramanouskaya battled for two singles wins at the top spot while fellow freshmen Leticia Tarocco and Josefa Fuenzalida also ended the weekend with a pair of wins in singles.

Ramanouskaya added to her arsenal with three doubles wins alongside freshman Yana Mykytyn who went undefeated at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores Zoe Moley and Adriana Jimenez Casado also went 3-0 in doubles play at the No. 3 spot.

The Islanders will next face Our Lady of the Lake on Wednesday before rematching Prairie View on Feb. 4 in another doubleheader for their official home opener of 2025.
