CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team unveiled its 26-match schedule for the 2024 season on Wednesday.
"We have a really experienced team and are looking forward to a great season," said head coach
Steve Greene, who will be entering his ninth season at the helm. "The foreign tour we were able to go on this summer will prepare us for a very strong non-conference slate. That non-conference schedule will get us ready for an even stronger Southland Conference with talented returning teams and the addition of two more strong teams in SFA and UTRGV this fall as well."
The Islanders will get their year underway against a trio of Power Five opponents with the season opener coming against Nebraska, the 2023 National Runners-Up, on August 30 in Lincoln. While there, A&M-Corpus Christi will also face off against Oklahoma before heading to College Station to take on Texas A&M on Sept. 2.
The annual Islanders Classic Tournament will also serve as the home opener for the Islanders who will welcome in North Florida, Jacksonville State, and Texas Southern to the Dugan Wellness Center Sept. 5-7.
Other non-conference matchups include Texas Tech and San Franscisco on Sept. 13-14, and Texas State and UTEP on Sept. 20-21.
The 2024 SLC schedule will begin on Sept. 26 for the Islanders on the road who will welcome Stephen F. Austin to the league for the teams' conference openers. A&M-Corpus Christi will play its first home conference match on Oct. 5 against Lamar.
In total, the Islanders will play 16 conference matches. They will host Lamar, Texas A&M-Commerce, Northwestern State, Nicholls, McNeese, UIW, HCU, and also newly-joined member, UTRGV, and will only face SFA, Southeastern, and New Orleans once each on the road.
The South Texas Showdown, an institutional rivalry between the Islanders and the Vaqueros presented by Rally Credit Union, will now be counted towards their conference standings as well as UTRGV joins the Southland Conference. The two teams will still face each other twice in the season and will have an attendance point up for grabs to count towards the annual competition.
The 2024 SLC Tournament is set for Nov. 21-24 in Hammond, Louisiana, hosted by Southeastern Louisiana.
"We will be leaning on the experience of our returners but have very talented newcomers that will be looking to establish themselves. Two-time All-American and SLC Player of the Year in
Kyndal Payne, and All-Conference selections in
Leah Stolfus and
Kayla White are returning and have all improved significantly in the off-season to be at their best this fall," said Greene.
All of A&M-Corpus Christi's home games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
