SAN ANTONIO, Texas – After playing multiple grueling sets, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team was just edged by UTSA who took a 4-1 decision Wednesday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
It marks the first loss of the season for the Islanders (7-1) who got off to a 7-0 start for the year. Though, it wasn't relented easy as they made UTSA work for every set. The pairing of

Ana Veroux at court two had forced a tiebreaker at 6-6 but it was the tiebreaker on court one that finished first as UTSA clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (10-4) set.
Senior
Kateryna Rublevska was able to earn the Islanders a point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at court six. Senior
Naomi Moi McKenzie went down a set but battled back to force a third and was up 5-2 before going unfinished at court two. Veroux dropped her first set at No. 4 but came back 6-3 in the second to play a third before also getting whistled off.
The Islanders still maintain a lead in the all-time series over UTSA, moving to 15-7. It was the first match between the teams since the 2021-22 season when the Islanders won 4-0.
A&M-Corpus Christi will return home for its next two matches, hosting UTEP on Feb. 15 and UTRGV on Feb. 22. It will be the final two matches before the start of conference play for the reigning SLC Regular Season Champions, which begins on March 2 at Southeastern.
