FRISCO, Texas – Taking the first weekly accolade of the year for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team, senior
Kyndal Payne was recognized as the SLC Offensive Player of the Week announced by the league Monday.
Payne guided the team to a pair of sweeps last week, recording a double-double in both 3-0 decisions over Prairie View and Lamar. She led both matches in kills with 15 each time, adding 10 digs and 12 digs to her stat lines for the double-doubles.
Payne averaged 5.00 kills/set in the effort and hit .447 on the week. It included her career-high .667 hitting percentage against Lamar, making just one error on her 21 attempts. It helped the Islanders turn in a season-high .430 hitting clip as a team in that match.
She has turned in five straight double-double matches, including every conference competition so far.
"Kyndal had an amazing week," said head coach
Steve Greene. "She was so efficient offensively and produced points in so many ways. She is such a complete player and her all-around game really shined as she led us all week."

The honor comes ahead of a three-match conference week for the Islanders, who will open it tomorrow night at UTRGV as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union. They will then return for two home conference matches this Thursday and Saturday against Texas A&M-Commerce and Northwestern State, respectively.
The South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, is an annual institutional rivalry between A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV where the two compete against each other in 12 sports. This year, the stakes are higher as it will be the first time the competition is played as in-conference opponents after the Vaqueros joined the league this summer.
The Islanders lead the Vaqueros 5-2 in the yearly competition, winning last year's 36.5 to 27.5.

"UTRGV is always a great team to compete against and are coached very well. We are coming off a really nice week with a road win and then a home win in an awesome sold-out environment at the Dugan Wellness Center. Our team is really starting to come together and I've enjoyed watching the changes they've made this past week and the direction we are going," said Greene.
