CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team opened with a commanding first set to set the tone and cruise to a 3-0 victory (25-6, 25-18, 25-22) over Nicholls Thursday night in the Dugan Wellness Center on Pink Night, presented by Radiology Associates.
It was an all-around dominating victory for the Islanders (12-8, 7-2 SLC) who have now won eight straight matches and remain undefeated at home this year. They hit for a .329 team percentage including a .591 in the opening set while holding the Colonels to just a .134 clip on the night.
The Islanders improve to 12-1 this year when hitting above .200 and a perfect 12-0 when recording more kills than their opponent. Defensively, it is A&M-Corpus Christi's eighth opponent to be held to under a .200 hitting percentage.
Nine different Islanders recorded a kill tonight, with senior
Leah Stolfus recording seven through just two sets played. It was enough to help her surpass the 1,000-career milestone as she now tallies 1,003 kills through her career.
Senior
Kyndal Payne also reached a milestone, as her five digs on the night pushed her past 1,000 career digs to 1,004. It comes not long after she became the program's career leader in kills a couple weeks ago with 1,392, now holding 1,495 to her name.
It was also the team's best serving match of the year, recording a season-high nine service aces. Senior
Kayla White led the match with four aces herself, matching her career-high which was previously set on Sept. 2, 2023 at Texas Southern.
Defensively, sophomore
Brooklyn Jaeger picked up 13 digs in the pink libero jersey, her third consecutive double figure dig performance. She also recorded her career-high three assists.
The Islanders build upon their advantage in the all-time series with Nicholls, improving to 23-1. They have not lost a match to the Colonels since 2008 and have only dropped two sets in the last eight meetings.
The Islanders will look to continue their roll Saturday when they take on McNeese at 1 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center.
