Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Tennis Gets off to Sweeping Start to 2024

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Never dropping a set to open the new season, both the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis programs swept Prairie View in each of its doubleheaders Thursday to start 2-0 for the year.

The women turned in two 4-0 sweeps on the day. The men played out every point in the front end of the doubleheader and won it 7-0 before closing out with a quicker 4-0 win in match two.

"These Islanders were incredibly excited to start the spring season!" said head coach Steve Moore. "Everyone came back in great shape and trained hard over Christmas. That really showed today with their movement and focus! I thought they competed very hard and with a lot of spirit. Our goal is to play each present fight with intensity and while we've got a long way to go, I though the fight and heart today was strong! I love the character and unity of these teams!"

Senior Emma Aucagne went 2-0 in her singles matches, opening the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot. She moved to the No. 2 spot in the second match and swept that one as well with a 6-0, 6-1 score. Making her collegiate debut, freshman Ana Veroux also went undefeated on the day at the No. 3, beginning with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. She rounded out the day with a 6-2, 6-1 decision.

She also joined forces with senior Victoire Delattre to get a 6-3 doubles victory in the afternoon to help the Islanders win that match's double point.

The men played out the first match, with every pair winning in doubles to start out 1-0 in the season opener. Senior Avery Zavala then got it done at the No. 1, taking it 6-1, 6-1.
