EDINBURG, Texas – Taking a four-match winning streak back on the road, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team will travel to UTRGV on Tuesday as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union.
The South Texas Showdown is a 12-sport rivalry between A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV, and the Islanders lead the yearly series 5-2. Both volleyball meetings will be played this week with three points up for grabs in each along with an additional attendance point.
Tuesday's match is set for 6:30 p.m. in the UTRGV Fieldhouse and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
"The South Texas Showdown is always a fun and competitive atmosphere," said head coach
Steve Greene. "UTRGV is very well coached and always have a very talented team with contrasting style of play, so it will make for a great match."
The Islanders (4-1) are on a four-match winning streak and are coming off two 3-0 sweeps over Texas Southern. The second win featured A&M-Corpus Christi's highest offensive mark of the season after the team hit for a .381 mark. Sophomore

Tori Arrington leads the team at a .404 hitting percentage with junior
Leah Stolfus turning in a .321. Both record four blocks on the season, trailing only graduate
Belle Morgan who tallies seven.
Morgan is averaging 6.88 assists/set on the year, totaling 117 assists in addition to adding 25 kills herself. She has helped run the team offense to a season-total .268 hitting percentage which leads the Southland.
Defensively, the Islanders average 14.6 digs/set compared to their opponents' 13.0 average. Junior
Kayla White leads the back row with 56 digs on the year while sophomore
Kendall Mahaney follows at 49. A&M-Corpus Christi's defense has kept their opponents to just a .172 offense, the lowest in the league.
The Vaqueros (3-3) are coming off a Western Atlantic Conference (WAC) championship. All three of their wins this year have been sweeps over Montana, Prairie View A&M, and Penn.
The match will wrap up a six-game road stretch for the Islanders who will return home to host the Islanders Classic, presented by Schlotszky's, Thursday through Sunday with tickets available for purchase here. The home opener is set for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against Prairie View A&M.
