BOCA RATON, Fla. – A shorthanded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program dropped a 3-0 decision to Florida Atlantic on Sunday at the FAU Soccer Stadium.
"I'm proud of the fight. We lost six student-athletes to injuries or illness throughout the game and still created chances against a National Tournament level opponent," said head coach
Craig Shaw.
The Islanders registered five shots in the contest, including three from junior
Morgan Westbury and one on goal. Junior
Storm Harris and graduate
Olivia Hughes also fired shots as Hughes nearly scored off a deep free kick.
A&M-Corpus Christi played a pair of goalkeepers for 45 minutes each. Senior
Kennedy Stelling got the start and made four saves and junior
Zoe Theriot made one.
Senior
Emma Herrera logged a team-high 74 minutes. She helped limit an Owls squad to one goal in the first half.
FAU tied Miami 1-1 last weekend. The Owls reached the championship game of the Conference USA Tournament last year.
It was the first-ever meeting between A&M-Corpus Christi and FAU.
The Islanders completed their fourth of a six-game road swing and it continues Friday at 7 p.m. when they head to Prairie View A&M. Their next home game is Thursday, Sept. 14 when they host UTRGV at 7 p.m. at Dugan Stadium.
