Islanders Shine in 6-0 Shutout Win at PVAMU

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Posting its second clean sheet of the season, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program blanked Prairie View A&M 6-0 on Friday at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.

Senior Maggie Murray and sophomore Mai-Lisa Atis both found the back of the net twice to highlight the scoring. Freshman Aaliyah Ramadan and junior Gracie Gill also tallied goals.

The Islanders outshot the Lady Panthers 21-4, and 17 of A&M-Corpus Christi's shots were on goal. The Islanders garnered shots from 11 different student-athletes.

"I'm very proud of how the whole team played tonight. We stayed focused and locked in the whole game and played some really nice soccer," said head coach Craig Shaw.

A&M-Corpus Christi got on the board in the 23rd minute as Ramadan scored off a feed from junior Megan Guy. Three minutes later, Murray scored on a header off a long ball down the middle from junior Emma Crump. The Islanders increased it to 3-0 at the intermission after Atis scored a corner kick goal that was first fired in by junior Rachel Loetzer.

The scoring continued in the second half. Junior Gracie Gill scored her first goal of the season after a cross from the left by Murray.

In the 73rd minute, Murray was found wide open in the middle of the pitch on a pass from junior Kaitlynn Melton and dribbled around the keeper scored into an empty net for her second of the day. The final tally came in the 86th minute as Atis finished a give-and-go from Guy on the left. It was Guy's second assist of the match.

Atis now leads the team with three goals on the year.

The Islanders used 22 student-athletes to help preserve the shutout. Senior Kennedy Stelling played all 90 minutes in goal and made four stops.

A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 5-1 all-time against the Lady Panthers including an 8-1 victory last season.

The Islanders will play their fifth of a six-game road swing Sunday when they travel to Sam Houston for an 11 a.m. start. Their next home game is Thursday, Sept. 14 when they host UTRGV at 7 p.m. at Dugan Stadium.
