Volleyball Unveils 2023 Schedule

July 03, 2023

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – With a challenging season ahead, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball program released its official 2023 schedule, announced by head coach Steve Greene.

The Islanders will first take the court in an exhibition match against the reigning national champions of Texas in Austin on August 18. The season will officially begin on August 25 with a nonconference tournament at Sam Houston State.

"We are excited for a very competitive season here in Fall of 2023," said Greene. "Our schedule has teams and coaches that have been very successful in previous years and will challenge us to get better each week."

The road trip to Sam Houston will also include matches against University of Portland and Oral Roberts. The Islanders will face SMU, LSU, and Texas Tech in Dallas Sept. 15-17 in another nonconference tournament.

The Islanders will host their annual Islanders Classic Tournament Sept. 7-9, welcoming Prairie View A&M, Weber St., and UTRGV. The tournament will act as the home opener while the match against the Vaqueros will count towards the South Texas Showdown, with game one of the series set for Sept. 5 in Edinburg.

"Our fans and supporters will enjoy seeing how much improvement our returners have made. They worked very hard in the off season to better themselves and our team. Kyndal Payne and Leah Stolfus had outstanding performances last season and will be looking to lead our team to compete at the highest level we can as a group.

"We have very talented newcomers joining our team as well. Belle Morgan and Morgan Smith are graduate students with confidence and experience that will bring a new dynamic to our team in addition to our very talented freshmen that are looking to shine on the Island," Greene said.

A&M-Corpus Christi's conference slate will begin at home on Sept. 21 against Lamar. Following the 18-game double round robin format, the Islanders will play host to the 2023 Southland Conference Championships in the Dugan Wellness Center set for Nov. 16-19.

"We will be improving throughout the season to prepare ourselves for the opportunity to compete as we host the Southland Conference Championship in front of our fans here in the Dugan Wellness Center," said Greene.

The Islanders last hosted the SLC Tournament in the 2020-21 season, where they won to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Overall, A&M-Corpus Christi is 81-27 against Southland opponents under Greene.

In total, the Islanders will play 12 matches at home excluding the conference tournament. Tickets will be available for purchase at a future date.
