HOUSTON, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball (20-23, 8-7) claimed its 20th victory of the season with a 7-2 routing over HCU (9-30, 6-9) in the weekend finale to claim the series victory at Husky Field.
"Hendricks was really good today. He was throwing strikes and had good stuff going," said head coach
Scott Malone. "I thought he ran through a brick wall and said today is my day. The offense set the tone in the first and knocked some fences down in the third."
Evans Hendricks started for the fourth time of his junior campaign, pitching through 6.1 innings, and striking out 10 batters in the outing. The strikeouts led to him taking down two of every five batters he faced through 98 pitches in the game. Senior
Hayden Thomas came in for relief in the seventh inning, closing out the game while striking out three batters.
Max Puls, a senior, earned the first run of the day for the Islanders on a wild pitch in the top of the first, setting the tone early for the game. In the third inning, A&M-Corpus Christi picked up momentum with a five-run inning to make the game 6-0 early.

Sean Curtis singled on a bunt two batters later. Holding on to a 4-0 lead, the blue and green tacked on two insurance runs with a two-RBI single by senior

Christian Smith-Johnson coming home.
Smith-Johnson earned the Islanders' seventh and final run of the game in the top of the sixth inning to extend the lead to 7-0. Shortly after in the bottom half, the Huskies plated a pair of runs.
Puls and Ryan both led the team with three hits on the day with the former earning two runs. Joining Puls was Smith-Johnson with two more runs on one hit.
The Islanders outhit the Huskies 11-6, collecting extra-base hits in the form of one double, a triple and a home run.
A&M-Corpus Christi takes to the road against Baylor Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Waco, Texas.
