Islanders Walk Off Against Harvard For Third Consecutive Victory

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - In a 5-4 walk-off win over Harvard (10-9), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's baseball team (1-13) earned its third consecutive victory at Chapman Field Friday night to hold a 2-0 advantage in the four-game series.

"I thought we put pressure on them and we have some talented gut who can run," said head coach Scott Malone. "I thought our pitching was outstanding tonight. We threw a ton of strikes and went right after those guys."

The Islanders spread out their five runs sporadically over the course of the game, with the first coming in the bottom on a sacrifice fly by Diego Johnson (junior) when senior Jake Johnson came home.

With a 3-1 disadvantage going into the seventh inning, the Islanders plated three in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-3 lead. Shortly after hitting a double, senior Max Puls came home on a single by classmate Leo Markotic. Markotic came home on a single by junior Sebastian Trinidad after reaching third on a wild pitch. Rounding out the scoring for the seventh was Cole Modgling, a senior, coming home on a wild pitch.

The Crimson tied the game in the top of the ninth before Trinidad made his way come with one out on the board, reaching on a fielder's choice to end the game.

Sophomore Zach Garcia took to the mound to kick off the game, proceeding to throw six complete innings and strike out seven in the process. Senior Sean Sieve relieved Garcia to start the seventh, facing three batters before junior Evans Hendricks came in for one out. Closing out the game and earning the win was junior Austin Dean with 1.2 innings pitched with two strikeouts on eight batters faced.

The Islanders outhit the Crimson 10-7 in the offensive battle with both teams coming away with two doubles in the performance. Both teams had a stolen base on the night as senior Brendan Ryan stole his 10th of the season.
