ARLINGTON, Texas – A hard-fought match didn't end in favor of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis program as UT Arlington took a 4-1 result at the UTA Tennis Center.
Four of the six singles matches went to three sets. A&M-Corpus Christi is now 7-4 overall on the season and moved to 11-6 all-time against UT Arlington.
The Islanders picked up a win from senior
Nathan Schwartz at No. 3 singles. He grinded out a back-and-forth 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win over Joan Torres Espinosa. It was Schwartz's fifth singles win of the season.
A&M-Corpus Christi nearly registered another point at No. 6 singles. Freshman
Tomas Quesada Perez was a game away from a victory 6-1, 4-6, 5-2 when the Mavs clinched the match.
The Islanders were also ahead in an unfinished doubles match. Quesada Perez and senior
Ulysse Bertrand led 5-4 on court three.
The Islanders return home Saturday when they host BYU at 11 a.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
