CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Excelling in their home openers, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tennis programs swept Prairie View A&M on Tuesday as the men won 7-0 and 7-0, and the women were victorious 4-0 and 7-0 at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
With the wins, the women remained undefeated on the year with a 7-0 record, while the men improved to 5-1.
Four Islanders tallied perfect 4-0 days, winning two singles and two doubles matches. It included senior
Pascal Lorieul, senior
Matthieu Peres and junior
Avery Zavala for the men, and freshman
Palina Saulevich for the women.
Lorieul improved to 5-0 on the year in singles. He defeated Jorge Caballero 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and followed it up with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory over Deigo Hatem at No. 2.
As a team, the men are now to 24-4 on the year in singles.
The women improved to 32-2 in singles as Saulevich and fellow freshman
Anais Brion each won twice. On court five, Saulevich topped Mahogani Green 6-0, 6-3 and Anette Lira 6-1, 6-0. On court six, Brion ousted Salma Villalobos 6-2, 6-4 and Cierra Garcia 6-2, 6-0.
The Islanders upped their record 37-0 all-time against PVAMU on the women's side and 40-0 on the men's. The PVAMU women's team reached the finals of the SWAC Tournament last year.
Up next, the men will host their annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions on Feb. 17-18, while the women will take on Sam Houston on Feb. 19 at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
