LAFAYETTE, La. – In only its first defeat of the season, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis program dropped a 4-1 decision to UL-Lafayette on Saturday at the Cajun Courts.
The highlight of the match came at No. 1 singles where senior
Pascal Lorieul remained undefeated on the season for the 3-1 Islanders. Lorieul cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez to go 2-0 in singles on the weekend.
"Our guys battled with big hearts today, but I have to give UL-Lafayette credit, they were just tough as nails at home," said head coach
Steve Moore. "I'm incredibly proud of Pascal winning at No. 1 singles. The energy and fighting spirit he brought was awesome to watch. We will learn from this, grow and improve. The character and motivation of this team is as good as any. They say you're winning or you're learning, and today we did some learning."
A&M-Corpus Christi was leading in an unfinished match on court three. Senior
Nathan Schwartz was up a set and leading in the second (6-3, 4-3) when the Cajuns clinched.
A&M-Corpus Christi is now 11-10 all-time against the UL-Lafayette.
The Islanders will play their season opener Tuesday when they host Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
