Record Breaking Offense Propels A&M-Corpus Christi Past New Orleans

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Hitting for a program-best .506, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team downed New Orleans in a quick 3-0 decision Thursday night at the Dugan Wellness Center.

The Islanders (12-8, 7-1 SLC) have now won six straight following the 25-11, 25-13, 25-11 sweep over New Orleans (4-15, 2-6 SLC). It is A&M-Corpus Christi's longest winning streak since the 2021 season when they opened conference play 8-0.

The .506 attack percentage has etched itself into the program record book for a three-set match, previously topping the team's .489 offensive performance set in 2021 at New Orleans. It is the highest hitting efficiency by a Southland Conference team this season, and best in conference play since 2020 when Stephen F. Austin hit .517 against Northwestern State.

Five different Islanders registered at least five kills, with each of them hitting above .400. Leading the attack was junior Leah Stolfus who converted on 10 of her 13 attempts for a .769 individual clip. Her 10 kills led the match as it was her fifth straight match to record double figure kills.

Graduate Belle Morgan hit for an .857 clip after going six for seven on the attack. In addition, she assisted on 33 of the team's 46 kills to run the offense to its historic efficiency.

Juniors Morgan Baese and Kyndal Payne each added nine kills with .533 and .421 hitting percentages, respectively. It marked Baese's career-high in attack percentage off at least 10 attempts. Graduate Morgan Smith slammed six kills off nine attempts for a .556 mark, her highest of the season.

The offensive barrage also came from the service line where the Islanders dropped in eight aces, half of which came from Morgan. A pair of aces came from sophomore Kendall Mahaney while freshman Alexis Massey earned her first career ace after subbing in on set-point in the second to secure the 2-0 match lead.

Defensively, junior Kayla White led the match with nine digs as Mahaney followed behind at seven and Payne at six. The Islanders remained perfect on serve receive for the second time this season, both of which have come in the last two home matches.

In addition, the victory marked head coach Steve Greene's 125th program win since coming to the Island in 2016. It ties him for most wins by a head coach with Tony Greystone (2009-15), making him only one win away from solely holding the title of most winning coach in program history.

That chance will come Saturday when the Islanders host Nicholls (2-16, 0-8 SLC) at 1 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center. A&M-Corpus Christi is 20-1 all-time against the Colonels and have not lost a home match to them since 2008.
