Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Undefeated Islanders Sweep Texas A&M-Kingsville 7-0

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The unbeaten Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program cruised to a 7-0 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Monday at the Javelina Tennis Courts.

With the win, the Islanders improved to 5-0 for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

"We're very proud of these girls. Tough conditions today, cold and windy, but every girl competed tough and stayed focused. Not one person complained, but instead really looked for solutions and played very smart. You have to be willing to pay the price on days like this and really work hard with your footwork and they did. Kingsville has some tough players and a lot of matches were close, but I'm very proud of how our girls made smart adjustments today and chose to be mentally tough," said head coach Steve Moore. "Love the character of this team!"

A&M-Corpus Christi won all three doubles matches to grab the doubles point. Juniors Naomi Moi McKenzie and Valeria Cherfus won 6-2 on court one, and junior Kateryna Rublevska and freshman Sofia Pinto tallied the same score for the win on court three. Junior Emma Aucagne and freshman Palina Saulevich registered a 6-4 victory on court two.

In singles, A&M-Corpus Christi won five of six matches in straight sets. It included 2-0 days from Aucagne, McKenzie, Pinto, Rublevska and Saulevich. On court five, senior Victoire Delattre notched a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

The Islanders are now 23-3 as a team in singles this year.

Women's tennis improved to 6-0 all-time against the Javelinas with a combined score of 41-1. Monday was the season opener for Texas A&M-Kingsville.
