CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball program will play in its third home conference game in a row, welcoming Lamar Tuesday night for a 6:30 p.m. matchup at the Dugan Wellness Center.
This will be each program's third conference matchup this season. After opening their conference-slate, the Islanders (1-15, 1-1) split their record with a 3-0 sweep over New Orleans and then dropping 3-0 to Southeastern. Lamar (6-7, 0-2) has yet to pick up a a win against a Southland opponent, dropping 3-1 decisions to both Northwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce. This will be the first meeting between the two since Lamar announced its rejoining of the Southland.
The match will be available to stream live on ESPN+.
In conference play, A&M-Corpus Christi leads the league in assists at 87 for a 14.50 set average and in kills at 94 for a 15.67 set average. The Islanders have also allowed the lowest opponent hitting percentage, fewest opponent assists, and fewest opponent kills against fellow Southland competitors.
Senior
Carissa Barnes averaged 6.83 digs per set with a total of 41 digs for her conference stats after the weekend and even maintained a perfect reception percentage. She leads the team and conference with 288 total digs and a 5.05 average. Sophomore
Kyndal Payne averaged 4.83 kills per set off 29 kills between the two matches, and even turned in a double-double performance against New Orleans where she recorded 13 kills along with 10 digs. She earned her season-high hitting percentage (.375) against Southeastern, turning in 16 kills off 32 attempts.
Behind Payne, junior
McKenna Reiswig has tallied 17 kills against conference opponents to hit for a .237 mark. In the match against Southeastern, Reiswig turned in double-digit kills for just her third time this season. Sophomore
Leah Stolfus holds the team's highest overall hitting percentage at a .289.
Senior
Faith Panhans is third in the conference in total assists, recording 397 and a 8.82 average. She has turned in three double-double performances this season, while freshman setter
Halle Gibson recorded her first career double-double against CSUN.
A&M-Corpus Christi tops Lamar 16-13 in the all-time record and has won the last 14 matches. This will be the first meeting between the programs since the shortened 2020 season and Lamar rejoining the Southland.
After its home match, A&M-Corpus Christi will hit the road for the next three conference matches, playing visitor to Northwestern State on Thursday, Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday and rounding it out with McNeese the following Thursday.
