HAMMOND, La. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team fell to Southeastern 12-9 in a back-and-forth shootout at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
"This is the first conference weekend where this club has shown up in a 1-1 situation," said head coach
Scott Malone. "These series finales are dog fights through nine innings. Friday went our way, but we knew today wasn't going to be like that; they are too good and well-coached."
The Islanders had 11 hits in the performance which amounted to nine runs scattered over four innings. The biggest comeback came in the fifth inning, scoring four runs before tying the game in the sixth. The Lions scored three in the last three innings for the lead.
Sophomore
Tre Jones and Senior
Steven Rivera-Chijin led the offense, scoring three runs apiece in the game. Both hitters had two hits on three at-bats with Jones taking the advantage in runs batted in and walks with two for both categories.
Sophomores
Brandon Petkoff,
Josh Caraway and
Max Puls each earned a run for the team as well.
Tyler Linneweber, another sophomore, led the team in runs batted in with three, hitting three for five on the day.
Junior
Hayden Thomas was given the start on the mound before senior
Tyler Miller came in for relief to pitch three innings. Sophomore
Colin Purcell saw 1.1 innings of action before
Cassius Shy, a senior, came in for 1.2 innings. Sophomore
JT Moeller finished out the game for the Islanders.
The two teams will face off in a rubber matchup tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.
