NEW ORLEANS – A back-and-forth Southland Conference championship match has not yet found a winner as the top-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis program and third-seeded New Orleans will resume play Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the University Tennis Center.
The match was postponed after two rain delays. The Islanders currently trail the Privateers 2-1, but lead on three of the remaining four singles courts. Junior
Matthieu Peres won 6-4, 6-3 on court three.
In the remaining matches, sophomore
Nathan Schwartz leads 4-1 in the third set on court two, sophomore
Guillermo Castaneda leads 3-2 in the third set on court six, sophomore
Pascal Lorieul trails 2-1 in the third set on court one and senior
Kyohei Yamanaka leads 7-6, 5-2 on court four.
The winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The men are playing for their 22nd championship in program history, 10th NCAA Tournament appearance and third in a row after winning in 2019 and 2021 (no tournament in 2020 due to COVID-19).
