NEW ORLEANS –
The second-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program made quick work of seventh-seeded McNeese in a 4-0 sweep in the quarterfinals of the 2022 SLC Championship at the University Tennis Center, hosted by the University of New Orleans.

The Islanders (20-3) won the doubles point and a pair of lopsided singles matches to jump ahead 3-0. A&M-Corpus Christi clinched it with a straight-set win on court four by sophomore Leopoldine Boisseau.

"The girls came out with great energy from the very beginning. They really came to fight today and we're bouncing and encouraging each other from the first point," said head coach Steve Moore. "I give McNeese credit because they fought very hard and really battled on that back row of singles. But I love the fight, encouragement and focus our Islanders had today."

A&M-Corpus Christi, the defending SLC Tournament champion, won the doubles with victories on courts one and two. Juniors Camille Townsend and Mariya Shumeika started it off with a 6-1 win on court two, and sophomores Emma Aucagne and Emma Honore followed with a 6-3 victory on court one.

In singles, Shumeika took care of a business by breezing to a 6-1, 6-1 decision on court three. Aucagne, the SLC Player of the Year, finished next with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court one.

Boisseau battled back to win in straight sets. She trailed 5-4 in the first before winning 7-5, 6-2. On court three, Townsend was a game away from finishing in a 6-2, 5-2 score.

A&M-Corpus Christi has notched four consecutive sweeps in the SLC Tournament dating back to last year. The Islanders improved to 16-7 all-time against McNeese.

Up next, the Islanders will square off with the host UNO, the No. 3 seed in the tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday. The winner of each SLC Championship will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The finals are slated for Sunday at 10 a.m.
