NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team fell to the Privateers in a 13-3 seven-inning loss Friday night at Maestri Field.
"It's a really good team and they're talented," said head coach
Scott Malone. "They fell five in a row coming into tonight and flipped the script for themselves. We need to come in tomorrow and play better. We need to do the little things better on defense and take care of the ball."
Junior
Leo Markotic was the first to kick off the scoring as he came in off a single by sophomore
Nate White in the bottom of the second inning.
Justin Taylor, a junior, smacked a home run out to left-center in the next inning to continue working into the Privateers' lead. In the third consecutive inning, the Islanders scored once again when sophomore
Max Puls earned a run off a double by White.
White had quite a night as he kicked it off going a perfect two for two with two runs batted in and a double. He finished the night by going two for three at the plate. Six Islanders combined for seven hits with White being the lone one to score multiple hits.
Zach Garcia, a freshman, made his fourth start of the season on the mound for the Islanders and pitched three innings before being relieved by sophomore
Sebastian Mejia. He worked the same amount of innings, only allowing one run and two hits off the 11 batters he faced.
Dylan Johnson, a sophomore, came into the game in the seventh inning to make his third appearance of the season. Freshman
Kyle Dickey came to the mound later in the seventh inning to close out the game.
A&M-Corpus Christi and UNO face off in the second game of the series tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Maestri Field.
