Islanders Primed to Defend SLC Tournament Titles

Men's Bracket | Women's Bracket

NEW ORLEANS –
With the opportunity to repeat as Southland Conference Tournament champions, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's & women's tennis programs will compete in the 2022 SLC Championships over the weekend at the University Tennis Center, hosted by the University of New Orleans.

The men (14-9, 2-1 SLC) earned the top seed and a first round bye. They will play Saturday at 10 a.m. in the semifinals against the winner of Friday's matchup between No. 4 NJIT (8-8) and No. 5 Nicholls (9-9, 0-3 SLC).

The women (19-3, 5-1 SLC) grabbed the No. 2 seed and will face seventh-seeded McNeese (3-15, 1-5 SLC) at 9 a.m. Friday in the quarterfinals.

The men defeated NJIT 6-1 and Nicholls 7-0 earlier this year, both at home. The men will be playing for their 10th SLC Tournament title in program history.

The women swept McNeese 7-0 in the regular season finale and are 15-7 all-time against the Cowgirls. The women will go for their fifth SLC Tournament crown in program history and did not drop a point in last year's tournament.

The women are guided by SLC Player of the Year Emma Aucagne on court one. She was a four-time SLC Player of the Week winner and was named to the All-Conference First-Team in both singles and doubles.

Nearly the entire A&M-Corpus Christi lineup was recognized on All-Conference. Sophomore Kateryna Rublevska was First-Team singles and doubles, sophomore Leopoldine Boisseau was First-Team doubles and Second-Team singles, junior Camille Townsend was Second-Team singles and sophomore Victoire Delattre was Second-Team singles.

It was similar on the men's side as four of the six student-athletes were tabbed to the All-Conference Second-Team in singles including junior Matthieu Peres, junior Ulysse Bertrand, sophomore Pascal Lorieul and sophomore Guillermo Castaneda. Lorieul was also distinguished on the All-Conference First-Team in doubles with sophomore Nathan Schwartz.

The winner of each SLC Championship will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The finals are slated for Sunday at 10 a.m. for the women and 2 p.m. for the men.
