Men’s Tennis Lands Four Singles Student-Athletes, One Doubles Team on All-Conference

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Nearly the entire lineup for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis program was recognized on the All-Conference Teams as the Islanders earned four singles spots and one doubles tandem.
 
Juniors Matthieu Peres and Ulysse Bertrand and sophomores Pascal Lorieul and Guillermo Castaneda were all voted to the All-Conference Second-Team. In doubles, Lorieul and fellow sophomore Nathan Schwartz were honored on the First-Team.
 
Lorieul was a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 singles in conference. He was the No. 1 player on a team ranked No. 94 in the nation. Lorieul helped the Islanders clinch the regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament after winning a three-setter on the road at UIW. Lorieul's non-conference wins included UTRGV, Abilene Christian and DePaul. He ended the season on a three-match winning-streak.
 
In his first season at A&M-Corpus Christi, Peres went unbeaten in conference with a 3-0 record. He also notched a straight-set win over NJIT in a non-conference match. He helped A&M-Corpus Christi clinch the regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament after winning a three-setter on the road at UIW.
 
Bertrand was 2-1 in conference and 8-3 overall on the season. He also registered a non-conference win over NJIT.
 
Castaneda was 1-1 in conference, 1-0 at No. 6 and 12-6 overall on the year. His 12 wins total were the most on the team. He helped A&M-Corpus Christi clinch the regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament after winning a three-setter on the road at UIW.
 
The team of Lorieul and Schwartz were 2-1 in conference at No. 1 doubles. The pair was 10-9 overall on the season on a team that was ranked No. 94 in the country. The duo helped A&M-Corpus Christi clinch the regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament after winning its match on court one on the road at UIW.
 
The men earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and will face the winner of No. 4 NJIT an No. 5 Nicholls in the semifinals at 2 p.m. Saturday in New Orleans. The tournament will be played at the University Tennis Center, hosted by UNO.
