Schwartz wins SLC Player of the Week Ahead of Conference Matchup at Home for Tennis

March 15, 2022

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Southland Conference honored sophomore Nathan Schwartz from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis program as Player of the Week on Tuesday. The award comes just before both the men and women's tennis teams host NJIT for a conference matchup at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center on Wednesday.

This marked Schwartz's second Player of the Week honor this year. In the men's 4-2 victory over Lamar, the L'Isle Sur Sorgue, France product won his singles match 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-4 and followed it up with a doubles victory 7-6 (3) with fellow sophomore Pascal Lorieul.

On Wednesday, the men's match will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. women's contest. This will be the conference opener for the men and the second conference matchup for the women. The women opened their conference slate with a 7-0 sweep over UIW on Saturday.

The women's win over UIW marked the team's seventh straight win and 20th consecutive win at home. They have not lost a conference home match since 2014-15. The men are 5-2 at home this year.

As a team, the women are 65-17 in singles and 34-8 in doubles. Sophomore Leopoldine Boisseau has won a team-high 24 matches including 13-2 in singles and 10-2 in doubles. She's on a seven-match winning-streak in singles.

On the men's side, the team is 56-37 in singles and 26-20 in doubles. In addition to Schwartz's success, sophomore Borja Delgado has won 15 matches including 9-2 in singles and 8-7 in doubles.

This will be the first matchup between the Islanders and NJIT since the Highlanders joined the Southland Conference as an associate member for men's and women's tennis. NJIT men's tennis is 6-4 on the season while the women are 6-5.
