Women’s Tennis Opens Conference Slate with 7-0 Sweep over UIW

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A strong showing was turned in by the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program as it swept UIW 7-0 in the Southland Conference opener Saturday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi (14-2, 1-0 SLC) extended its home winning-streak to 20 matches. The Islanders have not lost a conference home match since 2014-15.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi, the reigning SLC Tournament Champions, won its seventh consecutive match overall. Six of the seven matches have been sweeps.
 
The Islanders improved to 65-17 in singles as a team this year and 34-8 in doubles.
 
As a team, the Islanders are 59-17 in singles and 32-7 in doubles. Sophomore Leopoldine Boisseau has won a team-high 23 matches including 12-2 in singles and 10-1 in doubles. She's on a six-match winning-streak in singles.
 
A highly contested doubles point came down to the No. 2 spot where the sophomore duo of Emma Aucagne and Emma Honore registered a 7-5 win. It came after fellow sophomores Leopoldine Boisseau and Kateryna Rublevska won 6-0 on court three.
 
The Islanders did not drop a set in singles. At the top spot, Aucagne tallied a 6-2, 6-4 win. On the court next to her, junior Mariya Shumeika won 6-2, 7-6 (1).
 
The tightest match came at No. 3 where junior Camille Townsend grinded for a 7-5, 7-6 (5) win. Honore also won a tiebreaker at the No. 4 position in a 7-6 (7), 6-2 win.
 
The Islanders shined on courts five and six. At No. 5, Boisseau cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win. Rublevska was flawless in a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 6.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi is now a perfect 9-0 all-time against UIW, winning at least five courts in every contest.
