Islanders Improve to 13-2 on Season with Win at Sam Houston

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Winning its sixth consecutive match, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program topped Sam Houston 4-2 on Tuesday at the McAdams Tennis Center.

The Islanders (13-2) won the doubles point and closed out three singles matches for the victory.

"We are really fighting hard and growing as a team. We hard to battle with all our hearts today. Sam Houston is tough as nails and always very well coached. This match was a battle. We just have to take our mental toughness to the next level where all six girls come to fight every point. But we are committed to that and very determined to get there. It's very possible if we set our minds to it and commit to the hard work and sacrifice," said head coach Steve Moore.

In doubles, SLC Player of the Week winner Emma Honore teamed with fellow sophomore Emma Aucagne to record a flawless 6-0 victory on court two. A&M-Corpus Christi clinched the point with a win at No. 1 as juniors Camille Townsend and Mariya Shumeika posted a 6-2 score.

The Islanders kept rolling in singles and went up 2-0 after a win at No. 6 as sophomore Kateryna Rublevska cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Two more straight-set wins wrapped-up the match. Townsend submitted a 2-0 day with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court three, while sophomore Leopoldine Boisseau clinched it with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 5.

On court one, Aucagne was battling and was on the verge of completing a comeback when play stopped. She dropped the first set 6-3 but responded with a 6-1 win in the second and was leading 4-2 in the third.

A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 13-8 all-time against Sam Houston and has won in back-to-back years.

It was the final tune-up match for the Islanders before they open SLC play against UIW on Saturday, March 12 at 12 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
