"Islander Athletics and Islanders Tennis are incredibly proud to host the 58th Annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions. This is one of the grand events in the history of the Corpus Christi community! The H-E-B is the longest running college team tournaments in America and brings national recognition to Corpus Christi. We are incredibly grateful to H-E-B for 58 years as a title sponsor. Words cannot describe our gratitude for H-E-B's vision, generosity, and support that made this tournament possible! Islanders tennis began running the H-E-B in 2007 and it is become a pillar of our team, athletic department, university, and the Corpus Christi community," said head coach Steve Moore.

The Islanders enter the weekend with a 9-3 overall record and have won seven consecutive home matches. Most recently, they defeated UTRGV 5-2 in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union.

As a team, A&M-Corpus Christi is 45-20 in singles. Sophomore Borja Delgado has played all over the lineup and carries a 7-0 record. Sophomores Nathan Schwartz, Pascal Lorieul and Guillermo Castaneda are also coming off wins.

It will be the program's first-ever meeting against East Tennessee State, which carries a misleading 2-3 overall record. ETSU's only losses are a pair to No. 4 Tennessee and one to Clemson. The Bucs are coming off a 6-1 win over Indiana from the Big Ten Conference.

A&M-Corpus Christi will play its second match Friday at 2:30 p.m. against either UL-Lafayette or Abilene Christian.
