CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Leading the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team to an undefeated last week of the 2022 season, senior
Faith Panhans was honored with the final Southland Offensive Player of the Week award.
The honor comes after Panhans showcased her ability to run a competitive offense to lead the Islanders to victories over Lamar and Nicholls in the final week of conference play to secure a second-place finish in the league. She totaled 100 assists on the week, including 54 against Nicholls for her fifth 50+ assists performance, with a 12.50 per set mark.
She also recorded 22 kills herself for a .474 hitting percentage, which aided in the offense hitting for a .325 mark as a team. 13 of those kills came against Nicholls for her fifth double-double of the season.
"Faith really impressed this week, leading the offense while also getting many kills herself," said head coach
Steve Greene. "She really took over both matches and showed what she is capable of with her all-around game. With the conference tournament on the horizon, it is really nice to see her peaking just at the right time of the year."
The accolade marks Panhans' fourth all-time weekly honor and first of the season. She finished conference play ranked first in the league for assists per set at 10.57 and for setters in kills per set at 1.98.
The Islanders head into the post-season after finishing second in the regular season and earning the No. 4 seed for the SLC Tournament, hosted by Southeastern Louisiana. A&M-Corpus Christi will play on Friday at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals against the winner of Northwestern State and UIW.
