Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Islanders Drop Road Tilt at Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program fell 90-76 at Northwestern State on Saturday at Prather Coliseum.

The Islanders (16-6, 3-2 SLC) couldn't find their rhythm against a Northwestern State (6-16, 2-3 SLC) squad that shot 10-of-22 (.455) from three-point range.

A&M-Corpus Christi was playing catch-up the whole way and trimmed a double-figure deficit down to two points with 5:03 left but just couldn't get the timely stop or timely basket to even it.

Junior Terrion Murdix matched his career-high with 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds. He was 11-of-14 from the free throw line.

Murdix was one of four Islanders in double-figures including junior Isaac Mushila who tallied a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds. Junior Trevian Tennyson posted 12 points and senior Myles Smith 11.

Mushila and Murdix helped A&M-Corpus Christi outrebounded the Demons 38-31.

NWST was led by Carvell Teasett's career-high 27 points as he was 4-of-8 from three and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.

The Demons came out hot and scored the first nine points of the game. The Islanders got on the board with a lay-up by senior De'Lazarus Keys and a three by Tennyson to cut it to 9-5 with 16:06 left. Still down 13-10, NWST scored six straight to go back up 19-10 with 12:24 remaining.

A pair of free throws by Mushila made it 25-18, but the Demons went on a 7-2 spurt to lead 32-20 at the 5:16 mark. Murdix scored the final bucket for the Islanders of the half after a strong drive, but they trailed 41-31 at the intermission.

A&M-Corpus Christi scored the first four points of the second half after a lay-up by Mushila and a pair of free throws by senior Simeon Fryer to trim it to 41-35, but the Demons responded with long range shots to stay ahead 49-37 with 17:50 to go.

Still behind 56-45 at the 12:21 mark, Murdix scored six consecutive points with two lay-ups and two free throws to cut it to 56-51 with 10:13 left. Though again, the Demons hit a three and a fast-break lay-up to stay up 61-51.

A&M-Corpus Christi made one last push late. Down 70-62, Keys hit a jumper to start an 8-0 run as the deficit was down to 70-68 after a lay-up by Mushila with 5:03 remaining. However, each time the Islanders got close the Demons would hit a big shot. The Islanders were forced to foul in the end which padded NWST's lead.

The Islanders will return home Thursday when they host New Orleans at 7:30 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center.
