HAMMOND, La. – Top-seeded Abilene Christian's Miller Ladusau launched a go-ahead, three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth as a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comeback fell short in a 4-3 final in the second round of the Southland Conference Tournament Thursday at Pat Kennelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
The Islanders held a 2-1 lead until the pivotal eighth thanks to a
Luke Marbach solo shot in the top of the seventh, marking his seventh homer this season.
All four of the Wildcats' run came via the long ball as Grayson Tatrow sent one well over the wall in the third for the early 1-0 lead.
After a couple scoreless frames for either side, a
Josh Caraway walk and
Mike Williams single set the table for a
Justin Taylor sacrifice fly that made it a 1-1 ballgame.
Both starting pitchers kept the offense at a premium as
Hayden Thomas went 7.0 innings and fanned 11 batters, marking back-to-back, double-digit strikeout performances for the Islanders as
John Gaddis sat down a career-high 13 in yesterday's win.
Leo Perez (2-4) shouldered the loss for the Islanders after giving up the go-ahead homer.
The Islanders have a rematch set against No. 5 Sam Houston tomorrow at 9 a.m.
