CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Improving to 3-0 in conference, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program breezed to a 7-0 victory over McNeese on Sunday at the Henry Tennis Center.

The Islanders (13-1, 3-0 SLC) wasted little time in putting a point up on the board after winning 6-0 at No. 1 doubles with sophomores
Camille Townsend and
Mariya Shumeika, and 6-1 at No. 2 with freshmen
Emma Aucagne and
Emma Honore.

The No. 3 duo of freshmen
Leopoldine Boisseau and
Victoire Delattre were also up big 5-2, but did not finish after the quick clinch at No. 1 and 2.

In singles, Townsend – the reigning SLC Player of the Week winner – registered a comfortable 6-3, 6-0 win at the top spot. On the court next to her, Shumeika improved to 13-0 on the year with a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 2.

In the middle of the lineup, Honore tallied a lopsided 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3. The closest match of the day came at No. 4 where Aucagne battled to a 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 win at No. 4.

Rounding it out, Boisseau submitted a 7-5, 6-2 result at No. 5, while Delattre turned in a 6-1, 6-3 score at No. 6. Delattre is now 11-0 in singles this year.

"This team showed a lot of heart and character today. It was windy so they had to work extra hard with footwork and commit to mental toughness. You had to build points and pay the price. We're very proud of these girls for the discipline and work ethic they bring every day to practice. This is the root of why they're improving so much and playing with such confidence. We talk a lot about earning the right to be confident – and this team is earning the right with hard work and discipline," said head coach
Steve Moore.

As a team, the Islanders are now 69-6 (.920) in singles and 33-3 (.917) in doubles on the year.

A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 14-7 all-time against McNeese and have won five of the last six meetings. The Islanders carry a 51-9 SLC record over the last five years and are going for their sixth SLC title since 2016.
