CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
Winning its sixth match in a row, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program was all business Friday in a 7-0 sweep over Stephen F. Austin at the Henry Tennis Center.

The Islanders improved to 14-1 overall and 4-0 in conference on the season. They are 75-6 (.926) in singles and 35-4 (.897) in doubles on the year.

"We competed with a lot of heart and toughness today against a very good Stephen F. Austin team. This team is improving every day and every match. These are such high character girls and they care so much and want to win so badly. We've just got to help them to stop taking the small naps during their sets and help them play every point with intensity tough and smart. But we believe with all our hearts they will get there because this team has as good character as any coaches could ask for," said head coach Steve Moore.

Moving up to the No. 1 spot, sophomore Mariya Shumeika remained undefeated in singles 14-0. She took down SFA's Paula Cerda in straight sets 7-5, 7-5. Shumeika came back from a 5-3 deficit in the second set.

A lopsided score came at No. 2 singles where sophomore Camille Townsend dismissed Nyah Kauders 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Leopoldine Boisseau posted a similar score 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

Freshman Victoire Delattre is still unbeaten on the season 12-0 after ousting Elena Bleicher 6-1, 6-4.

The closest match of the day came at No. 3 singles where freshman Emma Honore battled back. She dropped the first set 6-4 but responded by winning the second 6-2 and the third set tiebreaker 10-3.

In doubles, Aucagne and Honore were nearly flawless in a 6-1 win at No. 2. The doubles point came down to the No. 3 position where Boisseau and Delattre pulled out a clutch 6-4 victory.
