CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball wraps up regular-season Southland play on its home court, welcoming McNeese on Thursday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m. and closing the home stand against Lamar Saturday, March 27 at 1 p.m. inside Dugan Wellness Center.
Islander Match Notes
- Coming off a pair of Southland sweeps over Nicholls and New Orleans, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi solidified its spot in the upcoming Southland Conference tournament which is set to take place March 31-April 3 at the Dugan Wellness Center. The Islanders hold a 9-4 overall record and 7-3 mark in league play heading into the home stretch.
- The Islanders made the most of their final regular-season road trip, posting its fifth and sixth shutouts of the season in back-to-back fashion.
- Carissa Barnes leads the Southland weekly awards with three Defensive Player of the Week citations this season. The Weatherford, Texas native has recorded seven 20+ dig performances this season and tops the conference in aces per set (0.51).
- Chloe Simon's 799 career kills lands her ninth on the Islanders' all-time kills list, as she needs 61 to pass Shannon Hullum in the eighth spot.
- Faith Panhans joined an elite club of 19 players at the Division I level to record a triple double this season after the sophomore tallied 13 kills, 43 assists, and 11 digs in a career day at UIW.
- Rachel Young leads the way for the Islander offense, totaling 149 kills and averaging 3.17 with nine double-digit efforts while Chloe Simon closely follows with 141 kills and touting a 3.00 average alongside nine double-figure games of her own.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's 14.83 kills per set paces the league and ranks fourth overall nationally.
- As a team, the Islanders top the Southland in several statistical categories including assists per set (13.15), hitting percentage (.291), and kills per set (14.83). Individually, Panhans (0.406) and Young (0.365) rank among the league's top four in hitting percentage at first and third, respectively.
The Opponent
- McNeese heads into tomorrow's contest sporting a 5-5 Southland record and looking to claim its stake in the upcoming Southland tournament. The Cowgirls split last weekend's contests at Lamar and versus Sam Houston, the loss against the Bearkats breaking a three-game win streak. Kendall Glueck paces McNeese with 104 kills and a .321 hitting percentage.
- Lamar finishes its conference slate on the road, facing the Islanders in both squads' regular-season finale as the Cardinals (1-14) aim to snap a six-game slide entering the weekend. Kaitlyn Gill has slammed 132 kills through 15 matches, leading the Cardinal offense and ranking 10th in the league in kills.
