LAKE CHARLES, La. – A walk-off home run by McNeese's Clayton Rasbeary proved to be the difference in a see-saw game two as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi fell by a 9-8 margin to the Cowboys Saturday afternoon at Joe Miller Park.
The Islanders tallied all eight of their runs over a three-inning stretch, beginning with a two-run third that saw a leadoff walk and a 1-2 doubles punch from
Luke Marbach and
Itchy Burts make it a 2-0 contest.
An explosive fourth boosted the Islanders' bounty to a 7-1 margin thanks to singles from
Josh Caraway,
Brandon Petkoff,
Tristan Welch, and
Diego Johnson while the blue and green were able to further the damage by drawing four walks in the five-run frame.
Finishing off the Islander scoring in the fifth,
Diego Johnson became the newest member of the Islander home run club with a left field solo shot to stretch it to an 8-1 visitor lead.
McNeese sparked a late offensive surge with a three-run sixth before duplicating the performance in the seventh as a Gabe Vasquez sacrifice fly and Payton Harden single made it an 8-7 contest.
It only took until the following home half for the Cowboys to erase A&M-Corpus Christi's lead as a single, walk and hit by pitch loaded the bases and allowed the ensuing sacrifice fly to plate the tying run and set up the walk-off opportunity.
Johnson paced the Islanders with a 2-for-4 day that included two runs and RBIs, while Burts and Petkoff also posted multi-hit days.
The Islanders and Cowboys square off in the series finale Sunday (March 14) at 1 p.m.
