CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team looks to rebound in league play and conclude a four-game home swing Saturday, Feb. 6 against Abilene Christian set for 1 p.m. inside the Dugan Wellness Center.
Islander Match Notes
- The Islanders overcame an opening period setback and responded by taking the next two sets including a thrilling 34-32 battle in the third, however preseason darling SFA ultimately claimed the 3-2 win in a deciding fifth set.
- Chloe Simon paced the Islander attackers against SFA and matched a career-high with 19 kills, while Rachel Young collected 17 and Kylie Filipiak registered a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. On the defensive end, Carissa Barnes anchored the home squad with a game-high 24 digs.
- Thursday's match marked the first time in the 2021 spring season that the Islanders played a deciding fifth set; A&M-Corpus Christi went 2-4 in five setters during 2019.
- Both squads split the 2019 series, seeing ACU take the 3-1 decision in the first outing before the Islanders completed the straight-set sweep at the Dugan Wellness Center on senior day.
The Opponent
- ACU opened its Southland slate Thursday at UIW, coming away with a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals behind three double-double performances and a .221 attack percentage.
- Katelyn Mueller has started the spring campaign with three consecutive double-double efforts and currently sits fifth all-time in program history for kills.
- At least four different Wildcats have collected double-figure kills in the opening three contests.
