CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team prepares for a Southland two-match weekend, as the Islanders conclude the road swing Thursday, Feb. 25 at Incarnate Word with a 6 p.m. first serve before playing host to Southeastern Louisiana Saturday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. inside Dugan Wellness Center.
Islander Match Notes
- Thursday's match marks nearly two weeks since the Islanders last played, as their last outing was a straight-set 3-0 victory from Central Arkansas on Feb. 13.
- Rachel Young leads the way for the Islander offense, totaling 74 and averaging 3.36 while Chloe Simon closely follows with 71 kills and touting a 3.23 average of her own.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's 15.14 kills per set paces the league and ranks fifth overall nationally.
- Barnes compiled another pair of impressive efforts and landed her second Southland Defensive Player of the Week plaudit, totaling 36 digs and averaging six digs per set in a pair of road sweeps as she posted a team-high 14 digs in the in over the Lady Demons on Thursday and her match-high 22 digs at UCA marked her fourth 20+ dig effort this season. The standout sophomore also tops the Southland in aces per set (0.64) and sits 24th on the national charts.
- As a team, the Islanders top the Southland in several statistical categories including assists per set (13.41), hitting percentage (.289), and kills per set (14.68).
- A&M-Corpus Christi aims to claim a fourth-and-fifth straight Southland win after downing Abilene Christian (3-1), Northwestern State (3-0), and Central Arkansas (3-0).
The Opponents
- Incarnate Word is 1-4 on the young season, hoping to keep momentum going after sweeping Central Arkansas on Feb. 11. The Cardinals offense is paced by Bethany Clapp's 61 kills and 4.69 average in 13 sets of play.
- Southeastern Louisiana sports an even 3-3 ledger and is looking to get back in the win column after taking Sam Houston to the wire in a five-set loss. Crispin Adams earned Southland Offensive Player of the Week accolades after tallying 11 kills and contributing to four blocks against Nicholls.
