Islanders Prepare for Central Arkansas in Saturday Southland Showdown

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team continues its road swing in Conway, Ark. with a Saturday (Feb. 13) matinee against Central Arkansas set for a 12 p.m. first serve inside the Farris Center.

Islander Match Notes
  • Texas A&M-Corpus Christi completed the 3-0 sweep at Northwestern State to notch its second-straight Southland victory, moving to 2-1 in conference action and 4-1 overall.
  • Rachel Young leads the offensive charge for the Islanders with 61 kills and averaging 3.21 per set through five contests, followed closely by Chloe Simon with 55 kills including a season-high 19 in a five-setter with SFA.
  • Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's 14.68 kills per set leads the Southland and is 10th in the national standings.
  • On the defensive side, Carissa Barnes continues to be a dominating force, crossing the 20+ dig plateau in three of the five contests and serving up a team-high 12 service aces. Her 5.37 digs per set ranks 25th nationally.
  • As a team, the Islanders top the Southland in several statistical categories including assists per set (12.95), hitting percentage (.282), and kills per set (14.68).
  • In the last meeting, the Islanders sent the Bears packing with a 3-0 straight-set landslide in the opening round of the Southland Conference Championship.
The Opponent
  • Central Arkansas holds a 3-4 mark heading into Saturday's matchup, seeing five of those played during the fall. The Bears downed Sam Houston in a 3-2 thriller to open league play before being swept by UIW on Thursday night.
  • Emily Doss clinched Southland Defensive Player of the Week accolades after turning in a dominant showing in the Bears' upset against preseason runner-up Sam Houston with 33 digs through five sets of play.
  • Lexi Miller paces the Bears with 71 kills, as Amanda Beaton (69) and Madi Bowles (57) complete the top three attackers.
