HAMMOND, La. – To wrap-up its road portion of the schedule, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's volleyball program will head to Southeastern at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the University Center and Northwestern State at 11 a.m. Saturday at Prather Coliseum.
The first-place Islanders (14-9, 10-1 SLC) are looking to complete season sweeps over both SLU (8-15, 6-5 SLC) and NSU (9-16, 3-7 SLC). A&M-Corpus Christi beat both teams 3-0 at home.
The Islanders are coming off back-to-back sweeps over Nicholls and New Orleans last weekend at home. Junior
Carissa Barnes went on to win Southland Defensive Player of the Week honors for the sixth time this season.
Barnes continues to lead the nation in digs per set with a 6.42 average. She has more than a half dig per set led over the second ranked student-athlete, Katie Forsythe from Loyola Maryland (5.79 d/s). Barnes also ranks first in the conference in services aces with 0.41 per frame.
A&M-Corpus Christi has three student-athletes ranked in the top-six in the conference in hitting percentage. Senior
Rachel Young is fourth with a .317 clip, senior
Montez Uigaese is fifth at .302 and junior
Faith Panhans is sixth at .298. Panhans is also second in the SLC in assists with 9.57 per set.
Freshman
Kyndal Payne continues to climb the charts in attacking and ranks second in the conference in kills per set with a 3.30 mark.
The Lady Lions have had an up-and-down season thus far. They fell on the road last weekend 3-0 to both McNeese and HBU, but are looking to bounce back. Cicily Hidalgo leads the league in kills with 3.93 per set. A&M-Corpus Christi is 16-2 all-time against SLU and have won nine straight meetings.
The Lady Demons fell 3-0 to the same two teams as SLU last weekend on the road. Haley Hoang leads the defense with 4.47 digs per set, while Piper Boudstun dishes out 9.03 assists per game. The Islanders are going for their fourth consecutive victory over NSU.
A&M-Corpus Christi will conclude the regular season at home on Thursday, Nov. 11 against UIW in the Dugan Wellness Center.
