NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Despite a near double-double effort from
Alecia Westbrook with a team-high eight points and 10 boards in addition to a career-best seven points from
Lynn Tamis, SFA shot lights-out from the floor to take the 100-41 decision over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Wednesday at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Westbrook's 10 boards, six of those grabbed in the second half, marked the fifth time this season she reached the double-figure mark.
Stephanie Visscher led the way for the Ladyjacks with a game-high 19 points, being one of five SFA players to end the night in double digits as the team shot 52 percent (39-of-75) from the floor.
Paige Allen sunk the opening bucket for an early Islander lead, but SFA countered with 10-straight points to swing momentum back to the home club. An
Alexandria Pollard layup began a 5-0 Islander spurt that trimmed the deficit to three before a Visscher triple launched a SFA run that boosted the margin back to double figures.
The Islanders collected all 11 of their third-quarter points from the charity stripe, seeing
Makinna Serrata and Westbrook combine for seven makes as the squad finished 78.6 percent from the line over the 10-minute stretch.
Despite the final outcome, the Islanders showed a balanced offense with all 10 players entering the scoring column and grabbing a rebound.
