Final Stats (PDF)

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
Big efforts from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Alecia Westbrook and Makinna Serrata proved not enough as Abilene Christian handed the Islanders a 73-51 decision Saturday at the Dugan Wellness Center.

Westbrook collected her fifth double-double of the season behind 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Serrata chipped in a career-high 15 points to pace the Islanders top scorers. The pair also led the Islanders in the steal column, each grabbing three apiece.

The Islanders started hot off a pair of Serrata buckets to quickly build a 5-2 edge that later doubled to a six-point affair, 12-6, at the 3:28 mark with a second-chance Westbrook layup. A pair of ACU free throws trimmed it to four but another Serrata make extended it to seven and punctuated her six-point effort in the first. The dynamic duo of Westbrook and Serrata combined for 12 of the Islanders' 16 first-quarter points.

Shots from Westbrook and Maria Aguado kept the Wildcats at bay to open the second, but a 9-0 ACU run erased the A&M-Corpus Christi cushion halfway through the quarter. Clutch free throws from Westbrook knotted the see-saw contest only to see ACU engineer a 9-1 outburst to hold the 32-23 lead at intermission.

ACU torched the nets the rest of the way, upping the margin to as many as 26 points late in the final stanza. Serrata managed a team-high nine points in the latter half to solidify the career-best performance while Alexandria Pollard recorded six of her nine points in the final 20 minutes.

Alyssa Adams erupted for the Wildcats with her own double-double of 26 points and 10 boards, while Paige Emborsky rounded out ACU's big scoring contributors with 11.

Up next, A&M-Corpus Christi hits the road to square off at Lamar on Saturday, Jan. 16 for a 2 p.m. contest inside Montagne Center.
