CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's program made quick work of Howard Payne in a pair of 7-0 wins Thursday at the Henry Tennis Center.
The Islanders (6-0) dropped just two games over 18 matches against the Yellow Jackets (0-2).
With the victories, head coach
Steve Moore is just three wins away reaching 500 in his career and sits at 497. The 11-time SLC Coach of the Year winner has coached the team to 11 NCAA Tournaments, 25 SLC Championships, 4 Top-40 National Rankings and 31 straight semesters with a GPA above 3.0.
"These guys are really committed to our process of playing every present point with intensity," Moore said. "They're pouring a lot of heart and soul into everything they're doing – the way they support and cheer for each other and the journey they're on to play every point with intensity. They're just getting better all the time and this group is a joy to work with."
The reigning SLC Player of the Week winner, freshman
Carlos Berna Ruiz, went 3-0 on the day. He picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles in the second match, and partnered with freshman
Pascal Lorieul for a pair of doubles victories.
A 4-0 day came from senior
Chad Nguyen. He won a pair of singles matches at the No. 5 position, and teamed with freshman
Nathan Schwartz for two dominant doubles wins.

Ernesto Mealla made his second appearance on the year and won a pair of 6-0, 6-0 singles matches at the No. 6 spot.
The Islanders will remain at home when they host UL-Lafayette at 11 a.m. at the Henry Tennis Center. The women will also be in action Friday when they host UTSA at 2 p.m.
