Kansas City, Mo. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball duo of
Nolan Bertain and
Elijah Schmidt were selected to the 2019-20 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court Wednesday afternoon.
Schmidt graduated this past May with a 3.17 cumulative GPA, earning a degree in environmental science from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Spring, Texas native also earned Southland All-Academic Second Team honors for his achievements during the 2019-20 season.
Schmidt averaged 6.0 points and 5.0 rebounds on the year, appearing in all 32 games with 16 starts. He led the team in rebounding on seven different occasions and grabbed a season high 10 rebounds against Big 12 member Texas A&M on Dec. 15.
Bertain completed his first season with the Islanders in 2019-20, appearing in 26 games with 19 starts. He knocked down 45 three-point baskets on the year, finishing the season shooting .341 from beyond the arc. Overall the Portland, Ore., native averaged 6.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Bertain completed the academic year with a 3.86 GPA as a communications major.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:
- Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.
- Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2018-19 academic year.
- Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
- Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.
