FRISCO, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball players
Fanny Ahman and
Rachel Young were named to the inaugural 2020 Southland Beach Volleyball All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Ahman, a sophomore from Umea, Sweden, carries a 4.0 grade point average as a Kinesiology major. In a shortened 2020 spring season, she posted a 4-4 overall doubles record, including an impressive 3-1 mark at the No. 1 position. Ahman has also been active in the community, participating in numerous community service projects including; Conquer the Coast, Miles for Meals, Habitat for Humanity and the North Beach Cleanup.

Rachel Young lands on the All-Academic team after carrying a 4.0 grade point average as a Finance major. She matched Ahman with a 4-4 doubles record highlighted by a 3-1 record at No. 1. In addition, Young had an impressive indoor season, earning All-Academic honors and landing on the Southland Conference Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll. She took part in numerous service projects including; Coastal Bend Food Bank, Miles for Meals and Habitat for Humanity.
The Southland All-Academic Team is voted upon by the head coach, sports information director and academic/compliance staff member from each school. Eligible athletes must have held a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA through the semester prior to the sport's season and completed at least one full academic year with the program prior to the current season.
The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 13 member schools, votes for the student-athlete of the year. The Southland student-athlete of the year award is presented to one student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees must have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
