- The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team earned two wins on Saturday morning, defeating Louisiana Monroe, 5-1, followed by a 3-0 shut out over South Dakota in Houston, Texas.Â
- The pair of wins improves the Islanders overall record to 3-5.Â
- Senior pitcher
Kandace Johnson recorded a new career high seven strikeouts against the Jackrabbits in the second game of the day.Â
Game One vs. Louisiana Monroe
- In a rematch of Friday night's game, the Islanders and Warhawks remained in a scoreless tie until the bottom of the 5th inning. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's
Alexandria Torres started the offense with a bunt single down the left field line.
Sydney Hoyt followed with a single as well down the left field line, while Torres scored on a throwing error by the infield.Â
- ULM tied the game in the next half inning, 1-1 on an RBI double.Â
- The Blue and Green responded instantly in the bottom of the 6th with four runs to take a 5-1 lead.

Samantha Gaona and
Alyssa Miller strung together back-to-back singles, followed by a double steal from pinch runner
Tiare Lee and Miller to move up to second and third.Â

Emily Vela stepped up to the plate and sent the ball back up the middle to bring both Lee and Miller around to score, giving the Islanders a 3-1 lead.Â

Gabriella Torress drew a walk to put runners at first and second, followed by a two RBI single down the right field line from
Sydney Hoyt. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi held a 5-1 lead after six innings and held the Jackrabbits scoreless in the top of the 7th to come away with the win.Â

Alexandria Torres led the offense with three hits while Hoyt and Miller each collected two. Hoyt also added two RBI to her stat line as did Vela.Â
- Sophomore
Jenika Lombrana had another solid outing in the circle, pitching a complete game and giving up only five hits and one earned run. She also recorded two strikeouts in her second win of the season.Â
Game Two vs. South Dakota State
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi struck first in the top of the 2nd inning, courtesy of a fielder's choice that brought
Daisy Gonzalez home from third. The Blue and Green added a run in the top of the the 4th and 5th innings via an RBI single from Vela and a throwing error by the defense to give the Islanders a 3-0 lead.Â
- A&M-Corpus Christi kept the Jackrabbits off the scoreboard through the entire game, earning their first shut out win of 2020.Â
- Gonzalez recorded a game high three hits which included two doubles.
Tiler Noyola,
Avery Ratcliff, Miller,
Samantha Burke and Vela all collected a hit as well.Â
- Johnson had her best outing in the circle so far this season, pitching a complete game and giving up no runs to go along with a new career high seven strikeouts in the win.Â
