- In a rematch of last year's Southland Conference tournament championship game, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team knocked off ACU, 70-58 on Saturday afternoon at the Moody Coliseum in Abilene, Texas.
- With the win the Islanders improve to 10-6 and 4-2 in the Southland, while the Wildcats fall to 12-2 and 4-1 in conference action.
- It marks the first win for A&M-Corpus Christi over Abilene Christian since Feb. 21, 2018 and the second road win over the Wildcats since Feb. 8, 2014.
- Texas A&M-University Corpus Christi used a solid first quarter start to take control of the game early, leading 22-12 at the end of the first frame. Despite the Wildcats trimming the lead to four at halftime, the Islanders outscored ACU in the third and fourth quarters, 18-16 and 20-14 to claim the 12 point victory.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was led by the senior trio of
Alexes Bryant,
Emma Young (Coleman-O'Bryan) and
Dalesia Booth, who each reached double figures.
- The starting five for the blue and green featured Bryant,

Key Islander Statistics
- Bryant led the Islanders' offense with 20 points, shooting 10-of-16 from the field while also grabbing eight rebounds. It marks the ninth double-digit scoring performance of the season and the 31st of her career for the blue and green. She now leads the team with three 20+ scoring games in 2019-20.
- Coleman-O'Bryan continues to shine for the Islanders as she scored 17 points for the second-straight game, 10 of which came from the charity stripe. In the last four conference games, Coleman-O'Bryan has averaged 11.8 points/game.
- Booth rounded out the double-digit scoring for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, netting 10 points.
- Evans added eight points shooting three-of-five from the field for 60-percent. She also dished out three assists. Matthews chipped in seven points while
Giana Wright added five and
Alecia Westbrook recorded three.
- The blue and green nearly led the game from start to finish, leading for a total of 39 minutes.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was extremely efficient from the charity stripe, converting 22-of-27 for 81.5-percent.
- The defense held the Wildcats to a season low 58 points, as ACU shot 18-of-50 from the field. The defense also forced 19 Wildcat turnovers on 12 steals.
- Evans led the defense with a season high five steals while Westbrook collected four.
- The Islanders edged the Wildcats on the glass, grabbing 33 rebounds compared to ACU's 31.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi collected 28 points in the paint and 19 second chance points.
- A&M-Corpus Christi distributed the ball well as 12 of their 23 field goals came off of an assist.
Islander Notables
- Bryant's two blocks today move her up one spot to No. 6 all-time with 88 for her career. She now leads the team with 22 blocks through 16 games this season.
- Booth also collected a block against the Wildcats, putting her in sole possession of No. 3 all-time with 114 for her career. She is just 10 away from tying the top spot set back in 2004 (124).
- Coleman-O'Bryan's 17 points score today put her just 14 points shy of 1,000. She can join Booth as one of two Islanders in the starting five to score 1,000 career points. She also moves into a tie for No. 4 all-time in career assists with 247 while Evans is just two shy of jumping into the top 10 with 176.
- Booth now claims sole possession of No. 8 all-time in career scoring with 1,099 points.
- As a unit, the Islanders are now 9-3 this season when they outrebound their opponent and are 7-1 when they hold the opposition to 50-59 points offensively.
